Hockey Mentors is proud to announce the launch of our new sled hockey program, designed specifically for veterans and adults with mobility challenges.
This 6-week program will be led by Josh Deneau, a U.S. military veteran, bringing both experience and a deep understanding of the community we serve. Participants will learn the fundamentals of sled hockey in a supportive, team-oriented environment—no prior experience required.
All equipment will be provided. The program focuses on skill development, confidence, and camaraderie, offering a unique opportunity to get back on the ice and be part of a growing adaptive sport.
With the U.S. Men’s Sled Hockey Team recently winning gold, there’s never been a better time to get involved in this exciting game.
📍 Sunday afternoons | Viking Ice Arena, Hazel Park
📅 6-week session starting late June

Hockey Mentors is proud to introduce our new adaptive learn-to-skate program, designed for children ages 5-10, who are new to the ice and benefit from additional support.
This 6-week program focuses on building confidence, balance, and basic skating skills in a fun, encouraging environment. Each participant receives one-on-one support from experienced volunteers, allowing them to progress at their own pace while feeling safe and supported.
Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of skating through structured, small-group instruction led by experienced coaches. Whether it’s their very first time on the ice or they’re working toward greater independence, this program meets each skater where they are—no prior experience required.
All equipment and adaptive skating aids will be provided as needed. The goal is simple: help every participant gain confidence, improve mobility, and enjoy being on the ice.

The Hockey Mentors Summer Event provides a fully inclusive adaptive hockey and skating experience for children, teens, and adults with disabilities. Using specialized adaptive equipment and one-on-one on-ice support from trained volunteers, participants are able to safely skate, play hockey, and experience the joy of being on the ice—regardless of ability or prior experience.
This event is designed for the entire family. Everyone can enjoy food, swag bags, a silent auction, and off-ice activities. Whether you’re a regular Hockey Mentors guest or skating for the first time, families can relax and enjoy watching their loved one take part in a sport without barriers.
Hockey Mentors is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to removing financial and physical barriers to ice sports. The Summer Event is completely free for participants and families thanks to the generosity of sponsors, donors, and volunteers. Every dollar raised directly supports adaptive equipment, ice time, and programming that makes this day possible.
