Welcome to Hockey Mentors for Special Players

 Engagement in community activities is vital for creating lasting relationships. Hockey Mentors for Special Players organizes various events that bring together athletes, mentors, and families. These activities promote teamwork, social skills, and a sense of belonging. Join us in building a supportive community.

A Firsthand Perspective

 Hockey Mentors is a living testament to the idea that "hockey is for everyone." During their Media vs. Veterans event in June 2026, I learned firsthand with Local 4 why adaptive skating opportunities matter.

Sled hockey gear is not cheap, but the feeling of community on the ice is invaluable. Teammates and volunteers are the kindest, toughest, most spirited folks you could ever hope to meet. One player, a U.S. Army veteran and double below-knee amputee, told me "hockey is therapy." Honestly, spending time laughing, learning to play and about their journeys to embrace the game was therapy for me too. Knowing this inclusive environment exists and is made affordable by generous donors makes me proud to live in Metro Detroit.

Community Comes Together Through Adaptive Hockey

Media vs. Veterans Showcase Was a Success

 Last night local media personalities joined veterans on the ice to experience adaptive sled hockey firsthand. The evening wasn't about competition—it was about community, understanding, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. One of those memories came when young James joined the players on the ice and left proudly carrying his game puck, reminding everyone what Hockey Mentors is truly about.   Join us July 11 for our biggest adaptive hockey event of the year.
