“Through trusted partnerships with veteran and adaptive hockey organizations, we connect veterans to long-term opportunities for physical activity, peer connection, and continued participation in adaptive hockey.”

Veterans are connected to the program through outreach efforts led by Motor City Veteran Hockey, leveraging established relationships within the veteran community. Participation is open to veterans with mobility limitations who are interested in exploring adaptive ice sports. No prior experience with skating or hockey needed.

Hockey Mentors hosts adaptive ice skating and hockey sessions where veterans can:
All equipment is provided, and safety protocols are in place.
Medical clearance is not required for participation, and activities are adapted to individual comfort and ability levels.

Adaptive hockey partners, including Metro Detroit Sled Team, assist with equipment demonstrations and basic skill introduction to help veterans understand how adaptive hockey works and what participation entails.

Veterans who wish to continue beyond the introductory experience are connected to appropriate next steps, including opportunities for ongoing involvement with regional adaptive hockey programs.
This model ensures veterans can explore adaptive hockey at their own pace, with clear options for continued participation if and when they are ready.
This approach allows Hockey Mentors to serve as a bridge—introducing veterans to adaptive hockey while strengthening regional adaptive sports ecosystems.

Come for a free afternoon of fun, laughter and ice skating/hockey. Saturday, February 21st, 2026 at the Buffalo Wild Wings Arena, 1819 E. Big Beaver, Troy, MI 48083
